There are many problems with cheap discos that you may not find out about until it's too late:
MUSIC
Most amateur DJs carry plenty of music from their own favourite era, but it is crucially important that ALL of your guests are catered for. For this reason, it's essential that you choose a DJ who carries ALL the biggest hits from the last six decades. It is also essential that all his music is LEGAL, and not downloaded illegally from the internet - unless you're happy to risk a large fine for you, the venue and the DJ for copyright theft.
EQUIPMENT
DJs' sound and lighting equipment needs to stand up to the rigour of being set up, used, taken down and transported, week after week. Only professional equipment, specifically designed for this kind of use, is suitable. This kind of high quality equipment is EXPENSIVE - if a DJ is cheap, it is unlikely he is using good quality equipment. It is also much more likely to BREAK DOWN.
SAFE & LEGAL
Does your DJ have a certificate to prove his equipment has been PAT tested for safety? Does he have Public Liability Insurance? If not - your venue may turn him away.
